I assume it would be custom. I know it will be costly but I am looking for makers to do one, can anyone help?

Aren't all-silver bells really really dark sounding? I've known a few people who have gotten Sterling bells on horns, but they wound up flipping the horn for one reason or other. _________________ Patrick Gleason

King made their Silversonic trumpet and cornet Sterling silver bells from sheet and still make their 2B trombone Sterling silver bells from sheet.
Both Bach and Schilke 99.9% pure silver bells are electro-formed, same as Conn Coprion and Schilke beryllium-copper bells.
We have access to both Bach and Schilke bells.
The MSRP for a Bach bell only is $2631.96 for a 37 Sterling Plus, $1851.99 for a 43 Sterling Plus and $2217.99 for a 72 Sterling Plus.
A Schilke pure silver tuning bell retails for $1635.00.
No matter which you choose, it's going to be pricey.
FWIW I know a trumpet player that has an extra Schilke S42L-JF #2 99.9% pure silver tuning bell he'd like to exchange for a #2 brass tuning bell. Or he'll sell it outright. PM me if interested.
I hope this is helpful. _________________ James Becker

Do you know which bell you want or would prefer? Do you have a horn already in mind to have the horn put on like a "tuning bell" style so you can switch bells around?
It's one thing to find a manufacturer like Bach, Schilke, Adams, Schagerl, or Kanstul that can build you a custom bell in that material, but that's only part of it right? I mean do you want one of Bach's bell shapes or Besson, or an older Martín or King or what? Do you have something specific in mind, because that will narrow your selection options as well. The manufacturer will have to have a mandrel to even make the bell shape you want before considering what material is used to make it.
I've owned a few different sterling bells and I can't quite put my finger on it the sound is dark or bright. It is different and they can be loud. Why do you want or what are you hoping to achieve with sterling? |

Do they sell separately or as a component. I am looking for a 5" rimless bell obviously 2 piece. Specs for tail and wrap can be specified. Looking for a ballpark on just the bell, the builder of the horn is already specified. This will be a fixed bell horn.
Thanks,
Rod |

I believe that one of the Hub Van Laar trumpets in the Oiram line
has a silver bell, too. Check their website. Good Luck |

Now that would be a first I've never seen. The Conn Vocabells were made in two pieces with a much thicker flair than stem to provide greater strength. If a bell like this could be made to order I'd be VERY careful with it since it would be more susceptible to damage. Let us know how you make out. Good luck. _________________ James Becker

Save your money and purchase a used King Silvertone, Silversonic, or Symphony with the optional solid sterling bell. They have all the tone and intonation of any new custom high-dollar instrument. Plus, some models even had the matching solid sterling lead pipe, like the solid sterling neck on some Zephyr and Super 20 saxophones, and that also lends itself to solid tone.
Having been the custodian of my Uncle's Silvertone cornet for many years until my cousin finally expressed interest in it, I can tell you that to my ears, the tone is not darker, but bigger. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet

Anderson's makes electro-formed silver bells. They come straight and rimless. You would then need a technician to ball out the tail and bend. _________________ Josh Landress

Give Shires a call. I know they just did a silver trombone bell out of a solid sheet of silver. _________________ www.milanomusic.com |

I vaguely recall that Getzen makes one of their premier models with a sterling silver bell. _________________ I rode in on a horse and can't seem to get out of L.A.

There is a version of the 900 Eterna with a sterling bell (made from sheet silver). I don't know if they are currently available. They do show up on EBAY occasionally. |

I have had the Van Laar 8.1 Sterling 925, not with a reverse leadpipe, for over a year now and love it! It is everything they described it to be. It fits in so many different situations from shows to wedding bands to orchestral. Really good horn. |
