I have an old Martin cornet. Couldn't find a serial #. The engraving on the bell says Martin, then a word starting with what looks like an H, and the word Superlative, Anybody know the "H" word and what model it might be? Also, it's gold plated and pretty heavily tarnished, What's the best way to clean the finish? Thanks |

I would think "Handcraft". Martin engraved that on all their pro horns in the '20s and '30s. Is it similar to following image?

That looks like it! I didn't see the word Committee anywhere and couldn't find serial #'s. There is the letter M on the second valve. The bell has the same tilt as your picture. Did it come that way or is it bent? Any way to find out it's age and is it worth restoring? I took a little Twinkle silver polish to the writing on the bell and the gold plate looks to be in great shape. The valves work but most of the slides don't work. I appreciate your input.
