I was looking through some posts in the forum and was able to find out what the Carol Brass model #'s mean. Has anyone ever tried the CTR-5004 model? What I saw on a forum discussion is the 5004 = XL .470 bore for Carol. If anyone has tried it or is currently playing Carol's .470, I'm curious if your opinion of the horn. Also, coupling the .470 bore with larger 5" bell...thoughts? Saw a horn with this number and configuration and can't find info on it. The actual model # is CTR-5004L-YLT. Assuming the L to indicate light weight horn. Thanks.

Carolbrass seems to have very few models that come standard with a .470 bore.... On the CarolbrassCMS site I saw only a couple of CTR-5204 variants, and a single CTR-5064,...

On the other hand, it is my understanding that Carolbrass may accept custom orders for the XL bore on some high end trumpets.

I have a CarolBrass CTR-4344L-YLT, which is XL bore with bronze body, the more open lead pipe, nickel silver slides and the large yellow brass bell. It is a great horn. With the square tuning slide, the blow isn’t too open, and while the sound is on the dark side, I wouldn’t consider it “dark.” I worked with Doug Teeter directly on the build. Even though it was a custom build, it was very reasonable. Doug has an ML bore horn very similar to what he and I put together.

Hi Greg, couple of questions on your CTR-4344.....

* What size bell does it have? I know it can be ordered with the 37 type bell, 72 type, and also with the uber-large 5.31" (nominally 5.25") bell.

* is the bell the light gage one, or the standard gage?

* I noticed that it is supplied with "double ring" ferrules.... I am not familiar with "double ring" in this context... What does it mean?

Regards, Guido

My horn has the 72 lightweight bell in yellow brass. I don’t know what double ring ferrules means either.

The "L" actually refers to large bell size. A YST model is the standard bell size. The "T" refers to thin or lightweight bell. A YLS would be a yellow brass large bell horn with standard thickness or weight bell.
