I have a vintage martin handcraft dansant horn, which the guy at the store where I got it said was circa 1940, but I have seen similar horns dated from the 30s. I dont have the serial # with me right now, I will have to get the horn from my house. I was wondering if anyone had a list of serial #s or knew a place where I can find them so I can better guess the age of my horn. If it helps, it has a flat silver finish, small bell, gold plated inside, with no 3rd valve slide ring.

Here is the Martin Serial Number list I have: This was a posting that I copied. I don't know how accurate the final comment is about the oldest known Martin.

Year S/N Range

Here's the whole list.

1919: 17200 (I have 17290)
1921: 34100 - 40609 (including my 34151)
1922: 40610 - 47118 (including my 45680)
1923: 47119 - 53627
1924: 53628 - 60136
1925: 60137 - 66645
1926: 66646 - 73154
1927: 73155 - 79663 (including my 74286)
1928: 79664 - 86172
1929: 86173 - 92681
1930: 92682 - 99190
1931: 99191 - 105700 (including my 100918)

Calculated average: 1921 - 1931: 6509 horns/year

MOST OF DEPRESSION ERA, AND WORLD WAR 2 ERA

1932: 105701 - 108724 (including my 105760)
1933: 108725 - 111747
1934: 111748 - 114770
1935: 114771 - 117793
1936: 117794 - 120816
1937: 120817 - 123839
1938: 123840 - 126862
1939: 126863 - 129885
1940: 129886 - 132908
1941: 132909 - 135931
1942: 135932 - 138954
1943: 138955 - 141977
1944: 141978 - 145000

S/n 17200 is the earliest date that's known for sure according to a nice lady at LaBlanc. The records were destroyed by fire long ago.

I didn't record the original posters names, so I apologize for not giving credit.
The lists aren't the same, but aren't too different either. Take your pick.
