hello
open is of course better.
I learned, by experimenting, how to play muted the most efficiently (use the Wallace studio practice, in my sense the best one by all sides) : under the resistance, ppp but with an open aperture and not pinched lips.
Since that, even after weeks of only muted practice (around 7 hrs/day), no adverse effects when i play open or have a gig (lead or salsa).
