I have a CD of this concert. Additionally, I got to play this with Lew as well as Sketches of Spain. Cherished memories, Lew was a class act. _________________ Matthew Anklan

Lew was a beast. I share a birthday with him and we both studied with Caruso. That's where the similarities end unless you count our hairlines!
I met him a few times, he was quirky and eccentric. I guess that was part of his charm, he was an awfully nice guy. You could not meet a more likeable guy.
I met Steve Katz at a performance he gave in the fall of 2016. Steve was one of the founding members of BS&T. He jokingly asked that no one request Spinning Wheel as he hated that effing song.
I mentioned that Lew's solo was one of the solos that trumpeters loved to copy. He told me that he had stayed good friends with Lew after BS&T. It was obvious that he missed Lew.
One of the all time greats.

I met Lew after simply calling him for a lesson, and he was wonderful, sweet, a true artist. His teaching was different, shied away from chop issues, but wanted to focus on warmups, and music, music, music. We continued the friendship for years, regardless of our 3000 miles separation, but I really loved the guy. All about Louis and Miles. A true artist.

I had the great pleasure of studying with Lew from 1980-1982. He was truly an amazing player, teacher, and person. One of my most memorable moments was when he pulled out his Schilke P54 piccolo and played the Brandenburg (both movements) and nailed it without even being warmed up. He could do anything and everything on the trumpet. Such an amazing man. _________________ German made Destino *3* gold plated

Does anybody know if this is the original scoring? I am hearing things I never before heard. Thanks. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird
