I’m working on Oliver Nelson’s “Emancipation Blues.” On the album Joe Newman has a terrific solo.

Any other great practitioners of Gospel blues come to mind?

Oliver Nelson was a hell of writer and saxophonist. A role model of mine back in the day.

I don't know what Gospel blues is, but here's a nice solo by Harry Sweets Edison, maybe in that vein.
