|

Are the pop-up ads that show up in the bottom right of the screen after opening a page part of TH now? Maybe I'm missing a setting on my browser, but these are super annoying and have to be closed using the mouse since a finger touch sends you to the website of the annoying ad.
Just curious. _________________ Est quod est. |

Wow. It's been a long time since I experienced a more annoying popup ad. Takes up 1/4 of the screen, on every page load. The kind of thing that drives people off a site, driving down clicks etc.
Really, it makes the site unusable. I'll check back in a month and see if it's still there. Ugh.
Edit: Hmm. Seems to stop after doing its thing 4 page loads in a row. Still, super annoying. _________________ ~'77 DEG Dynasty II Soprano Bugle in G

I get them occasionally. Normally after the page sits for a while.
However, I have no problem closing them with a touch on my iPad. There is no mouse, so I guess I should be glad. |

For me every single time I click on a new TH page I get the animated pop-up. Having it suck my eyeballs away from what I came here for is super annoying. Having to click on a page, wait for the pop-up, then chase my mouse over to close it is a really really unwelcome nuisance. I get why we almost certainly need the revenue from the static ads, but this animated pop-up is a total drag. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

It's been a nice thing to be able to come here and learn about trumpets over the years. For free. I can understand selling adds to offset the cost but, I don't like it so, I will come by less and less. _________________ Joe Spitzer

I've had a sudden bombardment of ads, too. Previously I had none. Now they're in abundance, I would love a fix, too. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Some of the expenses for running TH are paid for by hosting malware from Taboola. Usually, you're fairly safe if you don't click on the malware "ads" at the foot of the page, but Taboola is very crafty in finding ways to make your computer run their software programs. _________________ '75 Bach Strad 180ML/37

They are more than a petty annoyance! They make me want to forget about coming to TH. |

I have zero popup ads.
I'm using Firefox and Adblock Plus.

You might have had some adware installed on your computer. Read up at
https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-taboola-ads/
I have an ad blocker so I see no ads at all; when I use other browsers I see ads but never pop-ups. _________________ Thane Standard Large Bb / Monette Unity B6-7M mpc

I've noticed that, at approximately the same time as getting continuous pop-up ads, I've had a strange function.
When I first open the forum to "View posts since last visit", I get a list of related topics. I open one and read/post in it, then return to the forum and back to the "View posts since last visit" and it's empty when previously it might have had several thread topics.
To compensate, I then have to go to the main forum topic page and open each page separately. This is not earth shaking but it is annoying and takes up more time.
Additionally, my cursor does not work and I have to use the arrow buttons to move around.
What's up with that? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Same with me. I got them on a mobile device, though. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Sorry for the hassle. I have an inquiry in with Taboola to ask them to tone it down.

There are adblockers for computers, tablets and smartphone browsers that fix this problem. They also let you decide whether to allow ads to appear on a site-by-site basis. That gives you the option to support sites with well-behaved ads by allowing the ads to appear if you choose. _________________ Bb Yamaha Xeno 8335IIS

I appreciate Todd’s work and the money he spends to keep this free to us site up and running.
I would prefer a solution that allows him to generate revenue to offset his costs and thus do not want to resort to turning on the mostly ineffectual iPad ad blockers. |

The ad blocker I use does not block all ads on a page. It does block the more evil popup ads.

Just downloaded AdBlocker, and it got rid of the pop-up video ads in the lower right-hand corner of my Mac's screen. Yay! |
