Not the spice, the mouthpiece maker. I just bought a 3C from mouthpiece express.
My Bach 3C sounds good but it's not .. quite there for me in terms of comfort. I've read a lot of reviews both here and other sites about the Curry version, some saying it's as good a Monette B6. I don't know about that, but I'm looking forward to getting mine. |

You should really get the reeves sleeves. I hear those used to be the stock curry option along with some sleeves that were made of different fabrics. All vegan |

I had to Duckduckgo Reeves Sleeves.
I don't mind. If the Curry will be more comfy than the Bach I'm using, I'll be a happy man. The Bach is carnivorous. |

Curry Moupieces are hands down the most comfortable and best moutpieces I have ever used. I'll never go back to my Bach 3c |

I love my Curry 3C. It's my daily driver - I use it for everything on my Bb trumpet now, from classical to loud lead/rock/funk playing. I used to use shallower stuff for loud and high stuff but now I just use the 3C for everything.
I have played the mouthpiece in both the Curry standard blank (which is a little heavier) and the Bach blank. I very much prefer the Bach blank.
I have a backup that is cut for Reeves Sleeves, but to be honest I never use it. I just use my normal one. I never got the sleeves to work for me at all. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I have a couple questions, although may have been answered in older posts.
Are Currys longer than Bachs? Are the Curry standard and Bach blanks the same length? If the Curry 3C is more comfortable than a Bach 3C, then I will be trying it. My Bach fits my Yamaha Xeno (2nd gen) mouthpiece receiver just fine, and I'm curious how a Curry will fit - standard versus Bach blank, if any difference?
Are the Curry and Bach 3C the same depth? One a bit shallower?
Thanks! I'll be searching older posts on this topic as well. |

I too, love my Curry 3C, and use it for 90-95% of my playing...
I prefer the Curry standard blank over all the others (Bach, BlackJack, etc.. AND 2 piece designs) IMO It holds the sound together better, consistently through registers vs. the others.
I was just comparing my Bach 3C / 1.5 C with the Curry 3C for cup depth..
by sight and feel, the Curry is a touch deeper than a Bach 3C, cup/bowl shape like my 1.5 C but not quite as deep as that.
The overall length looks to be a tad longer than a Bach (~1/8th of an inch), don't worry about that. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

Curry mouthpieces are slightly longer than Bachs.
I have a number of Curry 3Cs. My daily driver is a Curry 3C. in the Bach blank but the whole mouthpiece is the longer Curry length. It plays amazingly well. The other is a Bach blank and is the shorter Bach length. It plays terribly.
So although the above is just one experience, if you do buy a Curry 3C. in Bach blank, I suggest you specify that you still want the longer length as it keeps the cup and backbore in proper proportion.
Hope this is helpful! _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Everything Turkle said.
I went through many custom Curry 3C's, and can add a bit to this. The Bach blank is 1/16" shorter than the standard Curry blank. Bach is 3 7/16", and the Curry blank is 3 1/2".
And the blank that he uses on his BC series pieces looks like a Bach blank, but it is the full 3 1/2".
You can ask Mark to make you a piece in the 3 7/16" blank. The reason it does not work well, as he explained to me, is that he inserts the backbore reamer all the way in regardless. So when you make the blank shorter, the reamer gets inserted 1/16" further into the throat. So, you get a piece with a much shorter throat.
The BC blank vs. the standard blank does make a noticeable difference. Different response and feedback. Not sure how significant the difference is on the other side of the bell, I need to record a video. My wife can tell a difference when I switch between the two.
One more thing. My BC blank gaps exactly the same as a new Bach mouthpiece, right at 1/8" gap on my Bach Strad. My Standard blank gaps more like 3/16". Maybe this is an anomaly. Can anyone else compare the gap of the standard vs. BC blanks? _________________ Justin Dickson

I've read many reviews that end with responses like yours, and it's one of the many reasons I bought one. |

Looks like I lucked out. Not knowing anything about Curry V Bach blanks, I bought the Curry blank. I think that it was the default purchase option on the website, just went with it. Thanks for the info. |

I started on Bach and played Curry for years, but I was in the 600 series. SUPER comfortable and my endurance instantly was better. More recently found that Pickett took everything to the next level, but I do still think Curry is tops! |

I too have a Curry MP. I played a regular, common, Bach 3C for years and years, and discovered Mark Curry's mouthpieces.
I did a lot of research, and asked questions on here, over on the "other forum", and trumpet playing friends of mine too. I wanted something like a 3C but with a little more sparkle if that makes sense....
I opted for the 3M. (with the dot), and I absolutely love it. It is my #1 go-to mouthpiece, and permanently lives on my classic '67 Holton Collegiate. The Bach 3C is now a backup.
Mark Curry's 3M. mouthpiece could be described as sort of hybrid between a 3C type of cup and a 3D cup or 3E cup. I don't know... Maybe consider it an ever-so-slightly shallower 3C... I'm talking micro-millimeters... Like, maybe it could be perceived as a 3C½.

Firstly, thanks for the all the responses. The level of positivity around these mouthpieces is pretty high. And it is now higher. I came home from my morning walk, checked the mailbox, and there it was - my new mouthpiece.
The reports are true. These mouthpieces are fan fugu tastic. My horn slots so much easier, and with a seamlessness that the Bach I've used for the past year just didn't have. I don't really want to sound like I'm gushing but these mpc's are the absolute bomb. I can't believe how cheap they are for the quality they deliver.
Anyway, that's it. I love my Curry 3C |

Being a skinflint, I waited on Ebay to pounce. I picked up 3 MINT coronet mpcs super cheap, but they were all really bizarre sizes from the fringes of his size chart. Very shallow indeed. On an Olds Special, I gained about 3 extra notes on top using half as much breath. Just screamers. Took me a while to get used to and had to struggle to control the sound at first. Comfortable ? Are they ever !! Sound ? Believe it or not, the shallowest cups imaginable and a tiny bore yet still preserved the distinct cornet sound. I haven't played them all but have no want for anything else. |

I'm a little confused at this point. Is the consensus to use a 3 C Curry screw-rim, but a Bach-style comparable shank? Thanks. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

No, I don't think so. Curry 3C stock curry 1 piece. 2nd would be a Curry 3C cut for Reeves sleeves _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator
