Although health at time of recording is less than super, the piccolo sounds as good as when a 'legit' guy is hired in the studio. As they did on Beatles' Penny Lane...

Other than Arban's and various cornet studies, no.. which makes it rare as hen's teeth to sound that good.
If I had to describe the record...pop would seem more appropriate. |

Chuck Findley studied with Bernie Adelstein. Here's an interview with Mr. Findley where he tells the story and says how important he thinks classical training is for a jazz or commercial player to get a good foundation:

Miles Davis was a student of Vacchiano briefly in the 1950's. During one
lesson Vacchiano asked Miles, "If the piano is in the key of E, where does that put the trumpet?"
Miles replied, "Back in the f#$%^& case!" _________________ Bill Knevitt, who taught me the seven basic physical elements and the ten principles of physical trumpet playing and how to develop them.

Joe Wilder was both an outstanding jazz soloist and an accomplished orchestral player. He played in the Symphony of the New World. _________________ Tom Barreca |

I haven't heard Joe's name in a long time. He worked part time at Schilke's when I was there and he recommended me for a Jewish band (Arnie Miller Orch) that he played in. I played a number of Jewish gigs with him. Joe had played in some of the hotel house bands and he was a wellspring of Vaudeville Schtik. A fun and funny guy and an excellent player. And, yes, Joe was a classically trained commercial player. |

Arnie (Arnold) Miller was our composition teacher at Sherwood Music School.
He told us about his band and that he wrote music for local puppet shows.
He gave us a solid foundation, but there were only a couple of us (not me) who could actually write a good melody.

Sean Jones. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in classical performance. According to the liner notes of his debut solo album, he returned to school to earn his master's after working for a while as a jazz musician. However, I'm unsure if he ever released a classical recording. _________________ Enjoy the journey. |

I could be wrong, but this sounds like it was recorded an octave lower and sped up - it doesn't sound "right" to me. The trills are comically fast, for starters. Pretty common trick - the Beatles themselves used this technique all the time. _________________ Jim Wilt

Now that you mention it..it does sound altered or sped up. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoRLUMLWxlY
Another, possibly stranger trick -- the unusually rich sound in the middle register of his. |
