Hey guys, first time poster.
I am looking for a pocket trumpet to carry around on my way to work and on vacations.
I am willing to spend about $1500 for a new horn.
My main choices are the Carol Brass CPT-3000 and the Brasspire P7.
I would appreciate any input on those two horns and of course suggestions for something else! |

Welcome to TH!
I have a Kanstul pocket trumpet that is wonderful - in tune, free blowing, big sound. I picked it up used for $1300. I saw one for sale on TH a few weeks ago. Definitely worth the wait.
Good luck!

I had a Carol Pocket Trumpet, taking it and playing it in Europe. Worked well.
Put it in a gig bag and put the bag in my suitcase. Lightened my carry-on load, too. (If you do that, though, I'd have theft insurance on it.) _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

There is a rare Cantabile pocket trumpet on the Marketplace now and it's one of only fifty made. The legendary Mannie Klein owned #8 and this one is #7. Totally handcrafted by a man in his Japanese shop, it blows really well and the collectability value is enormous.

I will consider it.
How does it compare to the pocket trumpets I have listed?
Thank you!

Have you compared it to other pocket trumpets?
Is it good enough to be played professionally?
Thank you!

I am mostly interested in a pocket trumpet with a full sized bell so it could fit mutes, and I can't buy this particular one anyway because I don't live in the US and my only method of payment is Paypal
Thank you! |

Hello , if you want a real small pocket try the Carol mini, the smallest pocket in the market , plays great and very fun to hold this little horn.
I'm my opinion the full bell pockets are no real pocket horns but a cornet shape Bb trumpet that will never play as good as real good Bb accept if you pay big money , the pocket horn must be as smaller is possible and as free blowing is also possible , is not a horn for real gigs but a tool that will helps you to keep your chops in shape on vacations etc.

I thought about it, but fitting a full size mute is very important to me.
The full bell trumpets have a small enough case for me to carry, and I might even get a gig bag if that's not enough
I'm still contemplating between the Carol and the Brasspire, leaning more towards the Brasspire |

Great video. You can't go wrong with either Carol Brass Pocket Trumpet.
I own the regular-sized Carol Brass Pocket Trumpet. It has a full-sized gold brass bell, as well as 1st and 3rd valve slide adjustment rings. I've had mine for 6+ years. I play it regularly at work. I also use it on an occasional gig as a novelty in my jazz trio. It's held up well, except for the case, which lasted only about one year.
The mini is more affordable, and has a nicer case. In addition, the mini has a small-sized regular brass bell, and appears to be a bit awkward to hold (see time 5:40 in the video).
Both pocket trumpets would work well for practice when you're on the road or otherwise don't have access to your regular horn. However, I think the regular-sized pocket trumpet, with it's full-sized bell and better ergonomics, is more trumpet-like.

I was EXTREMELY impressed with everything about the Schiller Center-Tone pocket in 2016. I don't know who makes it in China but it is available only thru Jim Laab's.

I found out today that I have a Brasspire distributor here in Israel.
Price is a bit steep, but I could get it silver plated for $1800, same price for a lacquered one.
Either way if I was to order one from abroad it would be the same with the 17% tax.
The Carol is at a very appealing price point, but I don't know if it's a professional grade pocket, even though I've read a lot of great reviews about it from users here, some saying it is better than an old Benge pocket
Ahh... decisions...

The Kanstul 905 is essentially the same horn as the Benge pocket trumpet. It uses the #5 bell (Benge 5X) with an undersized rim, but will still fit mutes, normally. As stated, it plays nicely, with a Benge-like openness and sound. _________________ Brian A. Douglas

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |

Ive played the CPT-3000 for about 3yrs now on gigs, more intimate, and mostly with a harmon in - great sound although would struggle if needing to carry over other instruments - i tend to play in more acoustic environment- great valve action - comfortable to hold
good luck |

I think I'll order the Brasspire P7 from Ikebe Gakki.
It's the cheapest option including tax and it's supposedly a reputable store.
Thanks you everyone! |

Interesting to hear someone mention Ikebe Gakki here. I was just there yesterday. They are definitely a legit place with a lot of nice horns.
