Hi all,

I have a 1928 Conn 2B in raw brass that I've been really enjoying, but the original tuning slide has a chipped inner tube due to red rot and needs replaced. I have been reading that Bach designed his 37 based on the conn 2b, both having .459 bores. Is anyone aware if a Bach crook would fit as a replacement?

Im of course open to anyone who has any other thoughts on the best way to replace it.

Thanks!

J

Shops like MK drawing could make you a replica slide. I think that Blackburn, (now Pickett Brass) used to do that sort of thing. Probably are a few more that could do that...I know that there are a couple guys around that convert B flats into C's and vice versa...unfortunately I cannot remember who, been too long, and my "cranium hard drive" does not access like it used to...oh yeah, Jason Harrelson makes horn parts very well in his shop, a heck of a machinist...

Or, you could just buy a "parts horn", or make friends with the owner of an older music store that has a substantial "boneyard"..

Or, have it patched...done right, patching works very well..I have an old cornet about 100 years old that has a couple of patches, and it does not seem to hurt the playability much. It does not look bad if done right, especially on a vintage horn.

Good Luck!

Dave

Couldn't a tech just replace the inner tube that's chipped?
