Finally got the pics posted! Click to enlarge.

My customer's great-grandfather played this instrument and headed a brass band. While trying to take it apart, it literally fell apart, with cracking slides and broken braces. In the 19th century, everything was wrapped around a mandrel and brazed shut; tubing, valve casings, receivers, etc., there was no extruded tubing. The weak point, after 150 years, is the brazing lines on the slides.

So I ended up rebuilding the horn and remaking all the slides and some ferrules. Fortunately, the base metal of the crooks and bell was still good.

The instrument is in high-pitch Bb, and was made in Europe. The clues were the valve numbering system (10-11-12) and the metric thread of the screws. I had an over-the-shoulder bass horn in the shop earlier this year, which dated to the 1850's, and the rotary valve system was very similar to this instrument, so that could be how old this thing is!

Error 404 on your photos.

In case you haven't seen this one, hold onto your seat.

Thanks @spach, for alerting me. I think I've found an easy photo hosting site to post pics.
