Anyone playing these charts available from Yestertunes? I've read they're handwritten and can be a challenge.

I'm interested because the Yerba Buena Band was a two trumpet outfit like ours. We've been using Real Book Dixieland and Creole Jazz Band lead sheets and would like to try some arranged charts.

Mike Henebry has some nice ones although they don't match our instrumentation.

Sorry can't help with that request, but have you looked at the Lu Watters section of Simply Early Jazz?

I should add that Scott Sproxton, the arranger is very easy to deal with when you have special requests or just questions.

Yes, I've used the Lu Watters charts in manuscript. They may look a bit crude. but they're quite legible. Some are more detailed than others. Overall, a good collection.

Jim, here's a possible resource. San Diego Jazz Fest has a DVD with 1000 combo arrangements for $200. You can print out all the parts for each tune. The arrangements are uneven but many are useful. Want an arrangement for Panama? Mahogany Hall Stomp? Memories of You? A Xmas medley? A patriotic medley? I think there are some Lu Watters pencil charts in the list.
The disk contains an alphabetical index with title and a list of instruments. That guides you to a large volume with all the arrangements. In some cases, you'll find two, three or more different arrangements of the same tune. We usually play through them and decide whether to keep them. Also they include a second trpt part (like the San Francisco bands) and sometimes a baritone sax or tenor part plus clarinet.

Hi Jim,

This is just to let you know that the AFCDJS collection now contains about 75 of my arrangements. They tend to be more detailed (see page count) than the others in the collection and include a score. It wouldn't surprise me if none are included in the group of 1000 mentioned, however, since my contribution is fairly recent. If you'd like, I can send you a sample.
