I've got a 1927 Conn 22B Bb trumpet with the letter "A" stamped on the 2nd valve casing above the serial number. I know that a "B" stamped there means French Brass as the bell material. Anybody know what the "A" might signify?

Thanks!

Bill

Are you sure it's an A and not a star?

Definitely an “A.” At the spot the “B” would be indicating French Brass. I’ve got another 22B same vintage with that mark.

Well, I'm no help, then. I have a '29 22B with the "B" stamp on the 2nd valve, but I've never heard of an "A" stamp. Good luck with the quest.

Hey Dale,

I would have thought someone might know. Guess we'll see. My "B" stamp is from 1927. Nice horn and lights up pretty well on lead with the right mouthpiece, warm compact sound otherwise. Valves a little loose, but I use a thicker oil. What do you use on yours?

Cheers,

Bill

I use Blue Juice on mine, but don't play it much. It's in very nice original condition with minimal valve wear.
