Since there are a number of "what is the best" debates going on, I thought it was high time we took up this important but neglected topic.
Who do you think is the best maker of felts? I'm not interested in hard rubber. Hard rubber is for babies. |

I hear Yamaha is consistent across the lineup from beginning felts to the top of the line Xeno felts.
Getzen felts rarely need maintenance and are as good as the valves they cover.
Bach is the most accepted across the board, but one must be careful to not get the strike period felts, very inconsistent. |

I normally use Bach felts because that's what Bud Herseth played on, but I send them to Ken Larson for tuning first. You should see what the rest of your section is playing on, though, and try to match. Presumably the large symphony orchestras supply felts to the brass section to ensure consistency.
For Austro-German literature I switch to Schagerl felts. _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

Vintage Guar , with slide grease from their gums ... _________________ Most Important Note ? - the next one !
KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |
