I have an old Getzen Bb I bought in an antique store. The bell simply says: 90 Made by Getzen Elkhorn Wis. The horn is similar to the Super Deluxe, but it doesn't have any of the copper trim or the fancy (ugly?) sleeves, ferrels, or what ever you call them. This horn predates the SD. It plays really well. Surprisingly well. The serial # is 83xx. I watch ebay all of the time and have never seen one like it or a serial # that low. Anybody have any info about these horns? Getzen couldn't offer much help. Any and all thoughts appreciated. |

No letters before the serial #. Just 83xx. |

Try this web site for the date of manufacture.
I can see why getzen was of no help. The only dates listed here are for horns with letters in front of the serial numbers. There is no telling what series horn you have.

I have heard that a fire at the getzen plant in the early sixties destroyed all the records so any attempts to put an age to these old Getzens is going to be just guesses. I used to have a Super deluxe with the # in the low 30000's and was thought to be from the late fifties. I have also heard that Getzen started somewhere in the mid fourties so maybe your horn is from the very early fifties. |

Call Getzen customer service. They were able to tell me all about the used one I bought. _________________ Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig. |
