Does anyone know the name/composer of the piece Sergei Nakariakov is playing on his site (www.nakariakov.com) under the "Video Sample"? |

I don't know, but I just got back from the free recital he played in Cincy, and I'm getting ready to go parctice! He is amazing, absolutely amazing....got that flugel with the trombone bell. Love it!
I'm told his father does all the arrangements that Sergei plays, so there may be some difficulty there.

Ya i was afraid of that, and the only contact listed on his website is his agent for booking an appearance, so I guess asking him or an associate directly is out of the question =/

Asking is never out of the question. Getting an answer that you like, might be.

The name of the piece that he is playing is from his Concertos Cd and it is from the 3rd movement of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. It's amazing isn't it.

I can't tell you the name of that piece, but I can tell you that it is most assuredly not the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. |

Well, doesn't that just frost my flakes.
To my great surprise, there are two violin concerti by Mendelssohn. This is one of them -- specifically, the one hardly anybody plays that he wrote when he was 13. The Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (in E minor, the one that this "is most assuredly not") is one of the most standard pieces in the repertoire, and I have never heard it referred to in a way that would lead anybody to believe that there's more than one. My embarassment at this discovery is somewhat mitigated by the fact that neither jkramb19 or TrumpetPly1 seems to have figured out the source of my confusion...
For anybody as puzzled by this as I was, you can hear the whole thing played on violin here:

(You have to register to hear it, but it's free. BTW, the Naxos website allows you to listen to complete recordings of a lot of their catalogue -- check it out.) |

Sorry about the confusion on that. I should have said it was the concerto in D Minor. The E Minor is the really famous one that everyone knows but most are not too familar with the D Minor (even my strings professor). |

You have a strings professor?
Is there something you want to share with the group at this point??
Surely we haven't got a string player in our midst???

Yes Trumpetmike I have a strings professor because I am currently a music education major in college and one of the classes I just took was String Methods. The guy that teaches it is phenomenal and he just got off tour with Amy Grant and he isn't that familar with that concerto. |
