How do individuals feel about the Edwards new X line series trumpet over Yamaha and Bach? Does anyone have one of the new Edwards trumpets? I enjoy the round, mellow sound of the Edwards for solo works, but it feels like a tank to blow through. I play on a Schilke M3 Symphony mouthpiece.

I owned an X-13 and still own an X-17. I think that Edwards makes terrific horns. For me, the X-13 was a wonderful horn for solo and small ensemble playing. The X-17 is a great all-around horn, leaning just a little bit brighter than a Bach 18037, giving it exactly the sound I was looking for.
As far as "over Yamaha and Bach" goes, it is just a matter of individual preference. The Bach 19037 and 19043 are fantastic horns, as is the Yamaha NYII. I'd include the Shires AF/AZ in that mix as well. So many fine horns to choose from!
[Edit: The subject line is "C trumpets," but you asked about Edwards' X-Series horns. I don't think Edwards is making an X-series C trumpet right now. They were making a Gen 4 C trumpet, which was along the lines of a Bach 239, if I recall correctly.] |
