I've been a professional trumpet player going on 14 years and recently got some drastic but necessary dental work that has all but ended my ability to play. I haven't taken lessons since I was in college, but practicing on my own has only led to frustration. Who in Los Angeles would be BEST to turn to? Is there an expert that can save my career, someone who has proven to be the best in the field of reconstructing an embouchure, or is all hope lost? |

Perhaps you posted this in the "wrong forum"?
B.E. is a self help system. If you read through postings here, you will see this. People in my country, Norway, in Holland, New Zealand and elsewhere have had good results from B.E. Very few in this forum have had lessons with Jeff Smiley (who btw, lives in Texas).
The great thing with B.E., in my opinion, is that you will need to understand things for yourself. You need to be your own best teacher. Knowledge can sometimes be hard to get, but it sure is easy to "carry"
B.E. is an indirect system: You do a set of exercises and they will "restructure" things for you. When you have done these exaggerated movement exercises, you can go on as you have, playing music, etc. etc, for the rest of that day.

Yes, Jeff Smiley discourages adults in his area from taking lessons from him, instead he directs them to his book. The book/CD is incredibly complete, with carefully crafted instructions, crystal-clear pictures and accurate playing demonstrations. Unlike most methods that demand the aid of a qualified instructor, B.E. takes the experienced player through the process progressively without outside support.
I've played for forty-six years and got immediate results from B.E. There's been no reduction in my ability to play gigs with good tone and endurance, yet I feel my embouchure moving to a more efficient, "balanced" setting.
Check it out. You can buy the book for the cost of one face-to-face with a good instructor.
