Tony, I am in the exact same boat. I can't imagine an event more amenable to the transmission of a highly contagious virus than a bunch of trumpet players picking up the same couple hundred objects and putting their faces on them.
I expect we'll know a lot more in about a month regarding how bad this whole thing is going to get... In the meantime we probably just have to be patient...
Lordy, I was really looking forward to seeing some old friends at the convention this year and buying a new horn. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

I wish a decision would be made soon too. I am supposed to be performing and now my College is shut down. Non essential travel has been stopped and potentially my funding from the college may disappear. It would be nice to know far enough in advance so that travel plans can be changed or cancelled as well as hotel bookings........... _________________ Seelan Manickam

I'll bet not as many, now, as planned.

We just got the letter from ITG saying the conference would go on as planned. This is surprising on the same day that the NBA suspended the season and basically all other large groups events in the country are cancelled. Not to mentioned closing the border to travel from Europe.
I know that ITG is not huge and they need the conference revenue, I am certain it would be hard for them to have a year without conference revenue, but it seems to be a big mistake to ignore what is going on with public health. _________________ Check out qPress for the largest selection of trumpet books on the internet. |

The event may not be as big but one has to take into account that people have to travel to get there and in many cases that probably means in crowded public transportation. So, once there, it may not be so cramped but to/from it still would be. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Maybe they're in a wait-and-see mode? It's not until the end of May. But if things don't change, it probably should be cancelled. Lots of instrument sharing is a great way to spread the virus.

Also, for vendors, breaking even at ITG is extremely hard, the conference is just not THAT big, and the costs to fly, stay, and get tables is really high. If attendance is low it will be a losing proposition for everyone there. _________________ Check out qPress for the largest selection of trumpet books on the internet. |

The well trained medical experts at ITG have made this well informed decision. No surprise here actually. |

Ohio native here. The governor just announced today that gatherings of more than 100 people in a single room are now banned until further notice.
"During the press conference, Gov. DeWine said this includes auditoriums, stadiums, arenas, large conference rooms, meeting halls, cafeterias, or any other confined indoor or outdoor space. This also includes parades, fairs, and festivals."
Wondering how ITG will handle this new development. |

Does this include movie theaters?
Personally, unless the virus has completely run its course and disappeared by May, I would not go. It's not just a matter of personal risk, I think it is socially irresponsible to take part in such a potential germ festival during a pandemic. |

I would guess that “auditoriums” include movie theaters, but as far as I can tell it wasn’t specified. |

No organizations are canceling events this far out. Most cancellations are through early-mid April. It doesn’t make any sense for them to cancel now without knowing how things will develop over the next two months. |

I have made the decision to not exhibit at this years ITG in Columbus. Now with the Guv' banning gatherings in Ohio what is the ITG thinking? The point was made about travel to and from and doing the possible math, one person infected could multiply very quickly within an airplane. Ten days before any signs show up and the whole ITG gathering might go home and, well, you figure that one out. I am hardly an alarmist but in this case I believe a bit of caution is called for.
I just read a very good bit of information from Taiwan. Take a very deep breath and hold it for ten seconds. If you can do that without coughing you should be OK.
