There is a NEW trumpet in town! Has anyone played one of these yet? Sounds like an incredible concept and looks fantastic.

Looks like one of those old "compensating" cornets.
I can't imagine trying to keep the pipes in the back of the valve section clean... _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Hi Dave,
not really that new....
look at this thread :
https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=141043
this thread went bad and Jerome had to back off to avoid the kind of toxic discussion which can happen here.
Anyway, Jerome is a true wind luthier and it looks that he knows what he does.
He doesn't seem to be focused on trumpet making only though. Maybe that's why we don't hear a lot of him so far. Even in France, it's kinda of hard to find a review of the trumpets. |

I had never heard of Mr Wiss until I received the March 2020 edition of the International Trumpet Guild journal. It contained an article entitled, "The Future of Instrument Making: A Conversation with Craftsman Jerome Wiss" by Andre Bonnici. The article did a nice job of explaining his (Jerome's) dependence on computer modeling and 3d printing in the prototyping of his instruments as well as the advantages of his valve block design.
Later that day I was looking at a new Courtios Creation Paris trombone and it had a mouthpiece he designed on it.
So in a couple of hours I went from not knowing about the man to seeing him / his work in two different venues. And thanks to GuillaumeM I have a third source. Thanks.
I sure hope he and some of his instruments make it to the ITG Conference, would love to see them in person. _________________ Dave

yes! i have played his horns about 3 or 4 years ago. i dug them alot!!!
different and very hip.
as you can see in that other thread you'll see that we successfully ran him off
of TH. i stayed in touch with him for a while after but at the time he told me that he was working on some other stuff but i haven't spoken with him lately and am glad to see that he stayed in the game 'malgré nous'.
i'm in paris at the moment and I'll give him a yell tomorrow to get some juice
stay tuned

Based on Ron's review and the youtube videos I contacted Jerome at the beginning of April last year, after some discussion I ordered a 6/20. He hoped for delivery before Christmas which would have been excellent as I had a music camp in January. Jerome was very apologetic when I contacted him at the end of November, he was very busy to finish several other instruments.
As it was the music camp had been cancelled due to severe bushfires in the area.
I received an email last Sunday from him saying he was back into trumpet making and had 7 instruments to finish by the 14th March, mine among them.
Looking forward to receiving it and will write a review. I feel this is the first major change in design of the trumpet in over 120 years.
Regards, Stuart. |
