3/29/2020 - Boehme #14. Like the others, imperfect, but giving me something to work on and keeping me honest.

I'm trying to move this to Youtube but having difficulties with some of the uploads... _________________ Jim Wilt

Yet another difficult one, well executed. Thanks for sharing. Really like your tone and precision.

Haha - yeah, my practice room is downstairs and the thermostat is upstairs. Probably at least a 5 degree difference. Cold is my kryptonite.
I'd forgotten how awkward this one was until I hit the nasty slurred leaps into the lower register - by that time I'm a little puffy. I have definitely been picking some stuff that hits my soft spots... _________________ Jim Wilt

That is what practice is for, right, unless you are rushing to learn new music for a performance?
Keep up the good work. I can see how good players get better! _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

MrClean wrote: | Thanks, guys. This was a tricky one. There were a couple of untidy spots, and some intonations issues on the soft low thing, but I had to pick my poison. Some of these are easier to record - most of the Collins etudes and the Intrada were one-take, but this was not, haha. Sometimes I’d sail through the gnarly parts and lay a big egg on something because I was careless. With each take, the sound gets a little grainier because of fatigue. At some point, you just say “this will have to do”. |
Hey Jim,
I should send you one of my Audacity Files, One take, Not !! But recording oneself is a sure way to expose your weaknesses and learn what your capable of !
thanks for the great stuff.

Jim,
Ah. This one is a real departure from the other more sonorous ones, something with a little edge. (Trying to figure out what that has to do with inspiration from your student). Great stuff and a real change of mood. Have to say I love the melodic stuff, but I certainly enjoyed hearing your execution of this one.
Thanks. I hope these will stay up for a little while so I can listen again. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS, Yamaha YTR-6335S

I forgot I hadn’t posted anything here today, but I got it in before midnight. Phil Collins’ Etude 17, “Solace”.

Episode 11, Longinotti's Etude-Burlesqe. Looking to balance out my diet, which has been a bit heavy on the lyrical.

Episode 12, with a little something different.
I worked on sightreading today - this is the first and only time I've played this etude. As such, I wouldn't say it is particularly compelling, but I'm picking different skill sets to hit.

Jim,
First of all great playing again. One thing I noticed is that the sight reading kind of freed you up a little, seemed like you were having more fun with this one from the tone and the phraseology. Made it quite enjoyable to listen to. (Hope you do not mind the commentary, but I found it quite nice with that little extra freedom.)
Also like the introduction. A great laugh. If we cannot make fun of ourselves, we are lost!
