How can I know if my valves have not been replated, and can replated older backs play tighter.? Or do earlier Elkhardt Bachs play tighter?[/b] |

A good test of whether a 'valve job' will change the way a horn feels is to use a very heavy oil on the valves (such as drug store mineral oil). With a very heavy oil the valve action will be sluggish, but the oil will prevent air leakage around the pistons. You can test all the valve combinations and determine if the 'feel' of the horn is changed.
Also test valve slurs, because that might be affected.
A cleaning of the valves and casings, and then apply your regular oil will restore the horn to its earlier condition.

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |
