If they are the same thickness, then the blow should be the same. Best way to measure is with precision calipers, dial or digital.

You have to dig (pry) out the old ones. A small jewlers screwdriver would work. I use a stiff sax spring in a pin vise. Press in the new ones, they usually stay put without glue.

Get a Bach "tune-up" kit, then you'll have the appropriate replacement, plus new felts and springs if you'd like.
The originals are held in with a glue, like a sax pad cement, most of the time you won't need to worry about gluing the replacements in. They're usually snug enough to stay in place. I use the point of a dart to pry out the old ones.

The only play effect will be if the old ones were the improper thickness - downstroke alignment.

Note, from a "tune-up" kit, swapping nylon and brass valve guides WILL change the way the trumpet feels/plays.

Try Samash.com. We have the tuneup kit in stock here in Charlotte. It should be in our .com as well.
