I believe I read that he's playing the 8310Z Shew Model. Could be wrong though!

The Yamaha site says 8335S but that may not be up to date.

It looks like he's playing a Monette on the Caruso video.

Like many players, he's probably played several makes and models.

Andrea plays the newest 8310Z trumpet (gen 2). I asked him about it last year on facebook. He has played heaps of different horns in the past (including Monette,Courtois, Bach, Schilke..) But looks like 8310Z 2 is on all the 'Play With Me' youtube vids

Yamaha, I much prefer his tone on his Monette horns though.

I think his tone is awesome on the new Shew. Wish I would have received a new Generation II like that one!

Over the past 20 years I have had 20 or more Shew horns for myself, and ones I purchased for friends. I love my Shew and am very comfortable with it in any venue. So I was anxious to get the new Generation horn, I purchased one about three months ago when they became available, and had it shipped to my home.

Well the new horn arrives wow!!! excitement of getting your newest horn, but when I started checking it out I was not happy with the clatter of the new valve system ( felts have been replaced with synthetic ) and they are very noisy, the valves themselves seem to weigh about 1/3 less than my old horn, and the horn itself weighs at least 1/3 less. All that said the horn played ok but not the same as I been used to, and I really could not stand the clatter of the valves so I arranged to send the horn back.

Returning the horn, no problem Mr Welch what seems to be the issue? I explained and was told "Oh you received the early Get II, actually we call that horn the Gen I of the new Gen II's, we are expecting the new Gen II's in a couple of weeks should we send you one???

Don't know what you would do, but I decided that was not correct and have not ordered another one, but listening to A.G. I would really like to have the new horn, he sounds incredible. Yamahas, I literally have purchased over 100 horns from them in the past 20 years, in my display right now I have two 8310Z's "Silver and Lacquer", I have a Vizzutti, and an EM.

Think I will wait until I read a lot more positive reviews on the new :Gen, before I try again.

Just my take!

hey, as Rosanne Rosanne a Danna would reply to a mistake, NEVER MIND, I just had another Gen II Shew delivered yesterday, and it is not the same horn I spoke about in my earlier post.

This horn is incredible, lightning fast valves (NOT NOISEY), very open and easy blow (not a sewer, just right), but mostly I was amazed by the tone, much warmer and richer in soft passages and or ballads, and the upper register seemed easier and with sizzle!!

Thompson Music Center, Mike Thompson, what a pleasure to deal with, hope the people who read my earlier post get the chance to read this one.
