I want a simple and easy to use way to record myself on piano and then add trumpet. Can anyone with experience at this help? I’m tired of recording trumpet without something else with it. _________________ Life is a collection of days.

I do this very often with my trumpet, then my trombone and a rythmic playback using GarageBand (free on Mac) or Audacity (free on Mac and Windows). You record a first track then a second one, and so on. That’s it. |

I will look at both of those. I should have said, I am looking to add a video component. _________________ Life is a collection of days.

The OP doesn't just want to record a simple video. He wants to create a video of himself on the piano, and then at a later time, add himself on the trumpet.
If I understand this correctly, he needs something like Acapella, which is an iPhone and Android app, that allows you to record one musician at a time, and combine them into a video collage.
Alternatively, he can use a sync track and record the piano and trumpet video separately. And then use video editing software on his computer to combine them into a video collage. Does anyone know if iMovie can do this?

You can use any video recorder, even your smartphone (lower quality). Most digital cameras come with high resolution video. You also use an audio recorder like the ones mentioned here. I use a Zoom H2n.
Any decent video software will have multi-camera editor (I use a pretty clunky one Corel Pinnacle Studio, but it has a great mult-cam editor that can sync on audio and allows you to make minute adjustments. You can also sync on a flash frame, but that is for simultaneous filming with multiple cameras).
The key is that your audio really needs to be in sync. So if you are recording a two different times, say using earphones, you have to be in sync and have some audio sync signal at exactly the same time. A loud clap, a single piano note a couple of measures before you start can work, just make sure it is in exactly the same place. A slight difference can be adjusted frame by frame in your video.
An app like Acapella is also a simple way to do this as TrumpetMD has mentioned. _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S
