Hi, have any of you played the Smith-Watkins soloist flugelhorn?

I can't find much information about it, other than what's in Smith-Watkins website.

I'd like to know how it plays, compared to other brands.

And I'd really like to listen to an audio sample.

Thank you.

This may have been made by Kanstul. Perhaps new old stock. Compare the images to verify.

...so it's basically a Kanstul 925 with traditional water-keys?

This is possible but depends on when the horn was manufactured.

I just noticed that Trent Austin (Austin Custom Brass) has Smith-Watkins trumpets listed on his site (I didn't look at flugels).
You might want to drop them a line and ask about your flugelhorn. They're great guys and won't steer you wrong.

Look for videos of Mike Lovatt. He plays a SW flugel.

SW do have a workshop in Yorkshire and there is a brass instrument builder, presumably for their hand made stuff, however, when SW was in London most of their range was made by Kanstul and 're-badged' including the "London" stamp. There is a long history between Smith and kanstul.
