Hi, have any of you played the Smith-Watkins soloist flugelhorn?
I can't find much information about it, other than what's in Smith-Watkins website.
I'd like to know how it plays, compared to other brands.
And I'd really like to listen to an audio sample.
Thank you. |

...so it's basically a Kanstul 925 with traditional water-keys? |

This is possible but depends on when the horn was manufactured. |

I just noticed that Trent Austin (Austin Custom Brass) has Smith-Watkins trumpets listed on his site (I didn't look at flugels).
You might want to drop them a line and ask about your flugelhorn. They're great guys and won't steer you wrong.

Look for videos of Mike Lovatt. He plays a SW flugel. _________________ "Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be".

SW do have a workshop in Yorkshire and there is a brass instrument builder, presumably for their hand made stuff, however, when SW was in London most of their range was made by Kanstul and 're-badged' including the "London" stamp. There is a long history between Smith and kanstul. |
