Here's my arrangement of "The Nearness Of You" for flugelhorns and vocals.

The Nearness Of You (Carmichael & Washington)
Flugelhorns, Arrangement, Mix and Video: Tobias Weber
Vocals: Katja Welck-Möhnen

(Just to save people from having to look elsewhere for the above information.)

Really beautiful, Tobias! If you ever want a bass trumpet part in there, just let me know, okay?

😉

You have a bright future as an arranger ahead of you, my man! Excellent job! And the playing is also quite good!

Thanks Rich for the kind words.

It's true that for the lower end of the voicings, a basstrumpet would be nice. What range has that horn?

Cheers,
Tobias

Exactly an octave below the standard B-flat trumpet. Like a valve trombone. I usually write for myself the same way you'd write for tenor sax. Looks like it's in one octave but sounds an octave lower.

I do have a Pro Tools rig with a good mic, so let me know if you'd like to add a track. You da man!

I'm not feeling it to be honest, the "bell tones" thing, I would much rather hear smooth phrasing with the voices moving together.

I like it Writing an arrangement is about taking decisions. These are mine.
