Just wondering if anyone heard the Carling family perform on You Tube? What a talented family.

Yes - you can find older threads concerning this!
And a personal observation, not in any way intending to be a smart-ass:
Some time ago, on TH, there was a discussion of the terminology dixieland/old time jazz/New Orleans music etc.
Due to my age and location I had the opportunity to listen to "old man Hans Carling" himself, end of fifthies, beginning sixties. The name of his band was Coolings´ Traditional Jazzmen" - indicating "a closer walk" with the originals. Not a dixieland band.
Besides this - yes they are awesome. I´ve heard Gunhild swing like mad on a common Recorder....

No rudeness assumed. The Dixieland conversation kind of got out of hand, sort of like what happened here in 1861.

I know what you mean since I followed that thread, while getting more and more astonished.....
We Swedes won a bloody battle against the Danes in 1676. They haven´t forgotten it to this day....the other day Swedes were allowed to go to Denmark from where I live, Scania just opposite Copenhagen, due to Covid 19. But you had to bring 1)passport 2)verification of your address.
All other Europeans could come and go...The prevalence of Covid 19 in Copenhagen still is higher than where I live...
Beware of sectarians!

I enjoy listening to Carling's shorter recordings and sometimes watch some of her longer stuff. She is posting every day, so there is ample opportunity. One nice thing is that the performances are not pretentious. You get them warts, flubs and all. Gunhild is a pretty phenomenal musician from a phenomenal musical family. The videos of her playing a trombone at a very young age are very impressive. She is a showperson and likes to put on a good show (like her ten instrument in one song videos). If you don't like that, you may not like her.
I enjoy her enthusiasm.

Yeah, I was going for the "Non-Sectarian Blues" connection and it didn't pay off.

As my Swedish friends say, oofta!

Sorry if I offended anyone. All I wanted to know was if anyone heard the Carling family perform. Just an innocent question. Maybe it's time I took my ball and went home. Rude people.

No worries. I don't think anyone is offended about anything. Play well, be well!

Her bagpipe stuff is pretty nuts
She’s entertaining no matter what she has in her hand.

She can tapdance and play better than I ever will when I'm siting down, relaxed, and in the zone.

Sometimes I hear her and my very amatuer ears think she's nailed the Satchmo sound. Would love to hear her do this:

https://youtu.be/81GKTMB7ao4

I reckon she could do it some serious justice.

I once had a collegaue who wrote a paper "On the art of keeping my big mouth shut". Obviously I should have read it more carefully.
Beware of me!
Please stay and "new balls please"!
And for the record: I just love Gunhild´s sound. Ofta!
Paraphrasing mr Ellington this "mistress is music".
