I will often pick up interesting albums at use record stores and put them on the shelf for ...years before I listen to them. I had a listening session this weekend and pulled out a Chuck Mangione album "Tarantella" which is a live album that features some big names like Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Gadd and Chick Corea playing acoustic piano, electric piano and....trumpet!

Listed as such in the credits and there are two photos of him in the section with Jeff Tyzik and Lew Soloff. Anybody ever hear him play? Curious....

I can't immediately find any clips of Chick playing trumpet, but boy there's a bunch of him goofing around on the drums at a pretty decent level. "Good high school student level," let's say. He's clearly having a ball doing it, which is the most important thing in playing any instrument or music, right?

Loved that double album. Didn’t know Chick played trumpet on it, but there were plenty of notes for everyone. Dizzy was amazing!

Chick plays drums and vibes. I had never heard of him playing trumpet, but it doesn't surprise me, his father was a trumpet player and led bands around Boston for years.

40 or so years back I saw Chick briefly play trumpet. I believe it was on the Dinah Shore talk show or maybe Mike Douglas. Both regularly had jazz artists on. Chick was a guest as well as Dizzy and a few others. Someone mentioned that Chick played trumpet pretty well. Diz handed him his horn and Chick ripped off a couple of bebop lines. As I recall he was pretty impressive.
