Hello, I'm new to this forum.
I've always played with a Bach 3C, lately I've found a low-priced Kanstul G2 mouthpiece. The sound is certainly better than the 3C, but I struggle to rise with the notes. Is there any secret? Thank you all |

Do you mean you have trouble playing the high notes?
I just got a Kanstul G2 from Jack Kanstul(he still has some pieces for sale). It was a custom piece with a bit rounder rim. I was playing a Bach Corp. 7C before this and I have trouble hitting the high notes because it is is larger and deeper than my 7C. _________________ Adams/ACB collaborative

My Kanstul G2 mouthpiece (mpc) is a god mpc. The rim is a little narrow. For me, I don't really feel it and it is insignificant for me. But it could be that the rim is having a subtle influence on you.
Is the size of your old mouthpiece the same as your G2?
When you say that you "struggle to rise with the notes", I assume you mean that you have trouble with your range? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Are you aware that these two mouthpieces have different size opening? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Yes, I just want to know if I have to take my time with this mouthpiece or is it really difficult to play. Perhaps that is why it is very little used by professionals |

IMO, if it's not widely used by professionals that doesn't mean there's something inherently wrong with it, just that there are other mouthpieces that have more favourable characteristics for that player.
There's nothing wrong with my G2, and I've had several from different makers. I just prefer the sound and feel of my present mouthpiece.
The "problem" with the G2 isn't that it's a bad mouthpiece but that it just might not be the best for you. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I didn't know there were other producers. I have a G2 from Kanstul.
It is definitely a great mouthpiece, the sound is wonderful. I simply struggle more on the high notes. Maybe it takes more time |

I don't mean this condescendingly, but maybe the problem is something in your technique. I've never had a range problem with the G2. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I have the Kanstul G2 and I find it hard to play up high as well. I'm used to a Bach 7C and I think the Kanstul is deeper and wider than the 7C.
I also have intonation issues with it. Again I think because I'm not used to it yet. Although I probably won't play it as I like the sound I get on the 7C better. _________________ Adams/ACB collaborative

I think BobD's comments about his experience with a G2 could be very helpful to the OP (annvill).
I think that if you have success playing a Bach 3C, then a Bach 7 size might also fit well (perhaps a
7 , 7B, or 7C. It is usually quite easy to find a Bach 7C to try.
A related possible concern is that you are not using a good technique for playing the higher notes. If you use too much mouthpiece pressure, that will prevent your lip from being able to vibrate and will stop the sound and the air flow. There is good information in the FUNDAMENTALS and the HIGH RANGE DEVELOPMENT sections.

Kanstul mouthpieces are not widely known, and were not advertised as much as other brands.

One last piece of advice then I close. What trumpet do you recommend with the Kanstul G2? Something that isn't the Martin Committee. What model of Bach or Yamaha or whatever. Thanks and sorry if I bothered |

I never thought about searching a trumpet by a mouthpiece. |

The Martin Committee is like THE trumpet to use with a Kanstul G2. Committee and Heim is the setup used by Miles Davis, Wallace Roney, and Clark Terry. You could definitely use the G2 with any horn, but the Committee is probably the perfect pair for it if you are into jazz. I would be interested to hear the G2 paired with a Bach, or really any other vintage horn. |

Yes, has anyone ever paired the Kantul G2 with a Bach trumpet? |

I've never played a Martin Committee.
It definitely works best with light bell trumpets |
