Any one have any thoughts on these? I have one on Ebay now. I am not a bach player so I dont know much but I did sell a Bach Mt Vernon 1 1/4 on ebay last week for $500 and a Mt Vernon 3C for $239. How much is a #1 worth? I know that the Mt Vernon #1 is pretty rare. |

Someone will probably pay between $250-500 for it. Big classical mouthpiece. |

Well you guy are going to go crazy when I tell you how I got them. It was a cold winters night on ebay. I was just looking around and I saw a vintage Bach 37 very nice condition in the picture. The starting price was $849.99. It had 5 mouthpieces with it so I just asked if any of the mouthpiece were Mt Vernons and they said 3 were so I bid $850.00 and won the auction. Not to mention the horn had only been played 5-10 times in its life serial #64xxx. I sold the 1 1/4 and the 3C and sold the trumpet for $1050 and now its time for the #1. I guess I was in the right place at the right time! |

Yeah I remember that one ... was listed twice! Good buy! I was broke at the time so I couldn't swing the purchase. That one did have a bunch of accessories ... like 5 mouthpieces and some mutes.
Good job! _________________ Bb - Yamaha Xeno 8335RGS

The New York and Mt. Vernon pieces can be quite good but they are inconsistent, since they were all "hand-made."
I have a NY 10 1/2C that I use for my piccolo. I love it, but it seemed kind of big for a 10 1/2, so I had Karl Hammond measure it at Schilke. It is really more like a 6C.
Just like the horns, there is a lot of mystique with the NY and Mt. Vernon name.
That mouthpiece is not worth $575.

Hey Romey,
I agree that it is not worth $575 but some body just paid $500 for a Mt Vernon 1 1/4C I had on ebay if they are willing to pay that much for it it is worth that much to someone!! |

I'll agree about Bach mouthpieces from ANY era being inconsistent. I've got 2 Mt Vernon 1s. Although the rims feel about the same, one is quite a bit deeper than the other. Mr. Bach used to personalize mouthpieces for his customers and made custom versions of his standard line.
Having said that, the Mt Vernon and NY Bach mouthpieces I have all seem to play much better than more modern ones I've tried. I have a New York 1C that outplays any later 1C I've played.
