My piccs have included Cousenon 3 valve, DEG 4 valve, Schilke P5/4, and now back to another DEG 4 valve since sending the P5/4 to Japan. Mouthpiece choice makes a huge difference with intonation on the DEG. I am currently using the Laskey P1C, and it feels quite consistent throughout the whole range. I know where 2 additional DEG Piccs are locally, so out of 150 made I guess that's not too bad! |

When I received it, it didn't fit into the receiver. I sent it back, along with the Bb leadpipe I already had, and they made some adjustment and returned it to me.
It is longer than the stock leadpipe and unacceptably flat, even with the bell pushed in all the way. For $200 plus shipping back and forth, it is not a usable Bb leadpipe. I have not yet reached out to Blackburn for further conversation - other things going on.
I suspect I'll need to get a shortened mouthpiece (more $$$) to use this pipe. I play a Curry 3DE. currently and I believe those can be ordered custom.

Wow. I am really surprised by all of that. They had to notice your stock Bb pipe was way shorter. Why would they make their pipe so much longer without asking you first? You shouldn’t have to buy a new mouthpiece (they should have asked if you wanted it made for a regular or short shank mouthpiece).
I would really like to get an A pipe, but I don’t have much confidence in a new Blackburn. Wonder how your new Bb pipe plays pulled out to A? I’m pulling my stock Bb pipe to A and it works, but I would have to think a true A pipe would be way better. _________________ Eric Sperry
