I woke up this morning with this on my mind, since we can't perform right now. What are your favorites; or, what are your least favorites to play? I'll go first:

The Producers
Anything Goes
White Christmas

I like White Christmas and Anything Goes because they are pretty much just straight ahead big-band style shows. The Producers is just a hoot all around.

My last gig before the shut-down was the Memphis production of the National Tour of Aladdin; it was a fun show, but complex...

My least favorites are Carousel and Newsies. I believe Newsies is the physically hardest show for me because it never stops...

I'm interested in everyone else's lists; especially you, Tim...

Ben

I have liked all that I have played. Hopefully, we will be back to it soon.

The problem is, since all of my playing was with community groups, each musical is tied in with the cast and fellow musicians of the time.

I think it was Golde who forgot a costume change and instead of winging it, ran off to change leaving Tevye and Perchik ad-libing for five minutes. I think Perchik ended up reciting the high points of Marx's Communist Manifesto while Tevye must have been working his way into Leviticus .

Everyone in the pit was in awe.

Finally Golde showed up. You could hear the collective sigh.

So maybe Fiddler - but not just for the music.

Chicago by Kander and Ebb!
Their Cabaret is great, but the best / most exposed parts are written for the clarinet.

I agree with you Ben, White Christmas is such a fun show to play, it has some great dance numbers.

Chicago is another good one, also in The Little Mermaid is a nice entertaining show to play.

Oh, I remember those good times when musicals used to keep my chops in shape.

Guys and Dolls
Les Mis
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Liked Sweeney Todd as a show, but not a fan of the trumpet parts.

Thanks for reminding me about The Drowsy Chaperone and Chicago. Another favorite is A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. I've played several national tours of Chicago; the only drag was reading the awful copy work...

Elizabeth ~ especially the climax part, which was a trumpet solo in the arrangement we played...goes all the way up at fortissimo...so tough to play, yet so awesome when you get it right.

Phantom of the Opera ~ the lyrics are wonky and the story is cringy, but the music...simply brilliant, in any setting.

And I've played two different orchestrations. The older one was more trumpet centric. The revised one was much more French Horn centric so naturally, I played it on French Horn.
