Difference between a Selmer Radial and K-Modified?

Aside from the valves (obviously) my understanding is the K-Modified has a different lead pipe.

I'm not an expert in Selmer history, but my instincts tell me Keith Eckert might not have been with the company by the time the Radials were introduced. Add to that how some Radials marketed for the USA had 'model numbers' (bore sizes, really) engraved into their receivers while many I've seen that stayed in Europe don't have engraving on the receivers.

One issue that has long been a part of this discussion is the standardization of trumpet mouthpiece shanks due in part to the popularity of Bach designs. Other than any other magic Keith may have tweaked into the horns, what I understand to be the major difference between Continental Selmer horns and the K-Mods' popularity in the western hemisphere comes down to this one factor. By the time the Radials rolled around, I think the trumpet mouthpiece shank and the receivers that accept them were more or less standardized for all markets across the world.

Interested to see where this goes - I've played a '66' stamped Bb and '77' and '99' Cs, as well as a Radial Bb with no stamp on the receiver.

I can't add too much to this except to comment that the wrap on the K-Modified is quite a bit tighter than on the Radial. K-Mod more "commercial" in style than the Radial which, in LB anyway, is a beast of a thing.

Reckon the bell on the Radial is bigger, with a wider flare as well.

My opinion, based on owning a LB Radial, and having test played 2 or 3 K-mods over the years, so take it for what it's worth.

Radials came in more variations.
The bell is way bigger on my radial than on any K mod I’ve had (there of them)
The radial bell on mine is the size and shape of my B700 except it is much heavier.
The leadpipe Venturi on my radial is 353
On my k mods 345
The B700 venturi is 360

My radial is the unmarked receiver version but is .463 bore, big bell, big pipe
I like the K mods too but the radial is actually a better horn i think
