As a recent comeback player, I have been at it now for a month thanks to the advice from the folks in the comeback section! Getting the chops back, but with no bands or any other players around me in South Mississippi, what can I prepare or look forward to? I have speculated playing for church, but other than that, there is no ensembles to join or something to prepare for, that is, a purpose to practice aside from just improving the chops...
What is keeping everyone going in these socially distanced times? _________________ Bach 43

I occasionally play from the porch even in the pandemic on a farily empty street, socially distant....... Not sure whose porch it was...... _________________ huntman10

As I'm currently at a low point, I find the question somewhat hard to answer. At first, just being able to play the trumpet was a great way to keep the spirits up and relax. Then, I started diving into the effects of deep-V mouthpieces to expand my trumpet's sound palette...got a little obsessive, but in the end found something that was exactly what I was looking for. Then came the 'cornet' hunt...and now to be honest, I'm a little lost.
...I guess it's good to have an obsession to keep you going, whether it's trumpets, building a car or redecorating your house. Short term goals can help with that as much as long term goals can. |

I am inspired by all the great trumpet players posting videos: Jim Wilt, Chris Smith, Håkan Hardenberger, Jack Burt among the classical and symphonic players. Julian Zimmermann on the natural trumpet. Some great stuff by TH members. Informational and instructional videos, etc.
Listening to this with gratefulness for their generosity makes me want to work hard and get to the point where I too might contribute. With the pandemic, I even have some time to do this. (Not saying the pandemic is good far from it particularly for musicians, but just making lemonade out of lemons.) _________________ Bb: Schilke X3L AS SP, Yamaha YTR-6335S

Thanks everyone. Be safe out there. My new goal is to pick a lower level concert and contest series book and be able to play through it by the summer...was easy in middle and high school but challenging now! _________________ Bach 43

I just play wherever I am.
I went to the shops today to buy food and practiced as I walked.
As I left the store I was stopped by people in the street and asked to play, so I did.
Unrehearsed Street performance, and I totally nailed it.
People do not expect to hear live music so they love it when they hear it.
Give them some love and you will get much more in return than you give to them. _________________ Conn 80a Cornet

I should really dust off my horns. They've been sitting for months....
I've always been bad at practicing without gigs or ensembles or performances somewhere on the horizon. Maybe I'll have to give it a go, anyway. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

This is going to be the year we break out and music will be one of the voices that confirms we are through with this stuff. Sometimes it is sports that bring us back after tragedy and such, but this time we will hear the local bands and orchestras and that will be a great affirmation. _________________ "There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality,
