|
|
Hi,
I bought the Conn-Selmer Trumpet Care Kit off Amazon a few years back. After using it to clean my Schilke Piccolo I noticed bristles from the brushes floating in the water of the bath.
About a month later the 3rd valve starting sticking. I changed the brush for a Players Rainbow Trumpet Snake and when I was cleaning the 3rd valve a large bristle came out of the valve case.
In the last few months I've noticed all my instruments starting to have sticking valve problems, and when I cleaned my Strad Cornet today, another bristle came out.
The Schilke Piccolo has since come back from having an ultrasonic clean and seems to be fine now.
Do I really need to send my Cornet, Eflat and Bflat trumpets away to be cleaned because of some badly made brush?!
This won't be cheap!
Has anyone had this problem before? Surely I can't be the only one with a brush that loses its bristles and causes problems and potential damage to my instruments!
Please some advice, please.
Desperate and p****d off!! |

I can't think of any bristles that have come off when cleaning, but my brushes that I use are all currently pretty old.
Even if one did, I don't see how it would be a problem. I thoroughly rinse my horns after brushing.
Frankly, I don't usually do the bath thing, I just run water through them and brush with water, and then rinse a lot with water. I've never found any bristle parts after all that.
Frankly, the techs I know brush things after a chem or ultrasonic cleaning. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

There was a "trumpet cleaning cloth" sold a few years ago at Long and McQuade that would, upon lightest touch, immediately scratch the polished silver surface of a horn. With your brush included, these would make a great matching set. |

These brushes do shed bristles occasionally, or even the full brush tip.
It's a good idea to inspect your bristle snake before and after using, and shine a light in your tubing if you are worried about any shedding bristles.
I recommend the HW brass saver cleaning kit for home cleaning.
Home cleaning is great to do, but you should still get your instruments professionally serviced every 6-18 months. It's the same as caring for your teeth. Brush twice a day, but also see the dentist for a deeper clean. _________________ www.divitt-trumpets.com
