Hello members of trumpetherald.
My name is Nick, I currently live in the UK.
I'm looking for help finding a part for my Conn 80A Victor cornet, made around 1947.
It's in great condition apart from the bow on the tuning slide which has developed several brown spots over the past couple of years and has been diagnosed as having 'red rot'.
New slides aren't available and I'm looking for a decent used one. There are not many 80A's here in the UK and I've been unable to track one down.
Any suggestions where I may find one in the US would be greatly appreciated. |

Look for a seller on Ebay "alsbarn" and ask them. They have parts for a number of horns and at least one of the hour glass tuning slides. I believe that you are looking for the larger tuning slide? _________________ Brian James

I contacted alsbarn but they don't have one at the moment.
I think this search may take some time _________________ NJ Bowers |

Spots may not mean much. If it is dezincification (red rot) it will take years before leak might develop. Have you had a repair person look at it? My experience with old Conns is that the leadpipe can rot out, but tuning crooks rarely do.
Good Luck,

As suggested above - keep watching e-bay - either for the part or a parts only 80A with a good tuning slide.
If you are concerned, have your repair tech solder a patch on the area then forget about it and just play. It will last for years. |
