Anyone know what die is needed to work the top valve cap threads on a Getzen 90 Deluxe? (that's a pre-fire horn)

Can't help on that for which I apologize. But I have a Tone Balanced Super Deluxe and it is the easiest trumpet to cross-thread I have ever held. Every time I oil it's like micro-surgery.

Maybe you know this but maybe someone else reading doesn't....

For hard-to-start threads:
1. Turn the cap (or whatever it is) backwards at first until you feel the click of the threads lining up,
2. Turn forward to screw it in.

Turning it backwards until the click makes sure that the end of the thread on the cap is lined up with the end of the thread on the cylinder. Once it clicks, it's pretty hard to cross thread after that if you aren't applying any downward pressure.

I do this with everything that has fine threads. Sometimes people looking will say "you're unscrewing it." Yeah... I know.

Of course also make sure you aren't having to push down against the spring of the valve with the cap. I have one valve on one horn where I have to push the valve down slightly to start when screwing the cap in.

This horn had a lot of other problems. The damage is way too severe to repair it with careful working of the cap. It needs tooling.

If you can get a read on the thread size and diameter, Ferrees can make a custom thread chaser. I'm presuming they are different from the later horns. Or it's even possible that they have one ready-made.
Curtis or Steve are the ones to email.
