Hi everyone,

Best wishes first of all for 2022

I did start the year together with my family members with Covid.

Though very bearable ( headaches, aching, fatigue ) , I can feel my chest is not at its best shape.
Shallow breathing and not much energy.

How would you recover gently with that issue ,

Got a Big Band gig in a couple of weeks and though chops seem ok, the breathing isnt optimum

Thanks

JiCe

Good to the hear that you're well!

In my case, both times it took a month or two before I didn't think about it any longer. "It" meaning the weak air support etc. However I did not want to stress the recovery as that is something that I have seen cause bad Covid returns... (being a teacher with students aged 13-15 in a country where schools have been open all through the pandemic without any face masks etc... Well, almost all of my colleagues have caught Covid one or two times).

SO... what I'm saying is that you shouldn't work too hard trying to build up your stamina again. Act like normal and let it come. What you can do is choosing equipment that helps you. I played on trumpets and mouthpieces that didn't require that much air during those months and acted like I was a 80 years old comebacker, played almost everything a bit softer.

Happy you are ok , last April I was seven days in hospital with serious pneumonia because of covid, I left the trumpet for two months (first time in my career so much) after one month of my illness my doctor ask me to go for a morning walk every day and I ended up to walk every day for two and a half hours for two months , now I am full recover and with no problem, I guess a half to one hour walk every day it will help your lungs to recover very quickly.
Best wishes.

Regards

Krax is right. I can say that because I am 80!

Interesting to read responses to this.

I had it at the end of July 2021 and around day 7 got in touch with a pulmonologist and starting taking a bunch of stuff. I think I missed 3 days practice because I was so tired. For the first couple days Back I couldn’t do the “long hold” Claude Gordon/Herbert Clarke isometric exercises or I would cough. I was using an Albuterol inhaler but after the cough was gone I dropped that because it makes my lips dry and unresponsive.

I did my Claude Gordon breathing exercises around the neighborhood and was back to normal in about a week. Usually I play the 3 octave chromatics in Clarke Study Nine everyday and do 4 to 10 or more times in one breath. After C19 I could still do that but the response was different but no lack of air for me.

Just get back to a normal practice routine and it should all come back pretty quick. I’ve heard people that have smoked for years can stop and their lungs quickly start clearing up. Getting healthy and walking and just practicing should do wonders.

I’m so glad you’re alive and recovering.
We all have so much to be thankful for.

Jeff
