|
|
Hi all,
I'm visiting family in Ann Arbor Mi through the end of July and was wondering if there are any players/teachers in the area that I should look into getting a lesson with before I leave the area. I've contacted the trumpet professors at the University of Michigan, but they are currently out of the area. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. |

What area are you seeking, classical, jazz, commercial? I can provide some information if you refine your areas of study.

Pretty much any style would be good. I've been dealing with some fundamental issues with my playing that I was hoping to discuss. Other than that, I would be happy to work on Jazz or classical playing - I've been getting into Jazz playing over the summer, and have also been working on some classical repertoire for a competition in the fall. |

Jean Moorehead-Libs would be who I would get in touch with. She has been teaching for many years and I believe still lives in Ann Arbor. I studied with her in the summers of my undergrad when I was back home in the Detroit area. _________________ Ryan Noe

If you're willing to make a drive and want to talk about jazz, you should look up Bill Lucas if you haven't already. He is the jazz trumpet professor as well as a member of the Detroit Symphony so you'd be covered in both areas. I remember a couple lessons with him from years ago as being informative and thought provoking! _________________ (List horns here) |

It might be worth considering a drive to Kalamazoo also (less than two hours west on I-94). I had an extremely worthwhile lesson once with Robert White, and Scott Thornburg has a great reputation as well.

Thanks all for the recommendations - I'll get in contact with them and see if anyone has some lesson slots open around now. |

This would also be a fantastic and worth-while trip. I've known Bob for years and have never had anything except positive and constructive experiences. The lessons I've had with Scott were also well worth the trip to the westside of the state when I lived in the Detroit area. _________________ (List horns here) |
