|
|
The original Trumpet Mouthpiece Comparator has been updated with new profiles and improved code that works better on today’s desktop and mobile devices.
View the updated version here: https://trumpet.cloud/mpc
If you need precision and granularity on mouthpiece specs, you might try looking into Vennture Mouthpiece’s free VennCAD desktop software. Vennture Mouthpieces will also scan your mouthpiece for $40 (as of August 2023) and will send you a high-quality digital drawing of it to use for your own purposes. Although the trumpet.cloud site hosts many scans donated from the VennCAD library and its users, the trumpet.cloud project is unaffiliated with Vennture Mouthpieces.
If you would like to add your mouthpiece scans or profiles to our public library, send an email to the address listed on the comparator site for more information.
Post below or send in your feedback!

I've gotten some great feedback about the www.trumpet.cloud/mpc site since posting it late last week, and I want to share a quick update with you.
To make it easier to share these mouthpiece designs and your comparisons with others, I've added a "Copy Link to Clipboard" option as well as the ability to download your custom overlay to a PNG image file. You can also copy the URL from the address bar after making your A/B selection, as the address bar should now automatically update with your choices.
If you're a mouthpiece maker and are up to contributing similar-type scans to this project, shoot me a private message or send an email to the address listed on the site! |

Would be great to see some Yamaha mouthpieces on here.
Also, I think the Monette B4LD and B4LM are the same drawing currently |

Those drawings look very similar, but they exist as two separate files in the defunct comparator pulled from the Internet Archive. From what I can tell, the differences are in the outer rim contour, rim sides, and the throat entrance areas.
But those images could also be two scan attempts of the same mpc -- that portion of the archive had a few other quirks.
Thanks for that URL, I'll reach out to him and ask.

I have heard (but not confirmed) that many Yamaha designs are functionally close approximations of the Schilke counterparts |

I also noticed a few gaps and issues like this with the Monette pieces...not sure whether or how this may be based off of another comparator by a now-defunct company, but I always found it odd how their Monette scans had entries for identical mouthpieces for different keys (these would have all of the same contours and internals with the possible exception of throat size). Anyway, my only minor and selfish issue with this new/unofficial one is that my regular Monette mpc, the 1-1 size, is nowhere to be found.
Happy practicing...and comparing!

Fixed, and added a few other Monette pieces that were missing. The Monette list now uses the nomenclature found on Monette's Comparison Chart.
Thanks for pointing this out, DB! |

I was looking on my phone at the time - sorry! That said, I think they're two scans of the same model. Had a look on the Monette website and they don't even list a B4LM option. Possibly Monette renamed the B4LM to B4LD at some point and Kanstul ended up scanning both or something. Anyway, they are two separate scans though now I look at it on my computer. Oops! |

A quick update:
The unofficial comparator now includes over 50 backbores as well as 25 previously unlisted mouthpieces discovered in the archive. Keep in mind the backbore sizes aren't intended to match with the tops, but it's easier to put all the drawings in one place for now.

Enjoy! |

A few quick updates to share:
- Added 100+ high quality full trumpet mouthpiece scans courtesy of the team at Vennture Mouthpieces. You can find these in a separate section at the bottom of each list; these higher quality scans might take an extra second to load on older devices.
- The original drawings and VennCAD scans have separate initial alignment (for now), but are at relative/matching scale. Use drag-and-drop or manual image controls to align as desired.
- Backbore-only scans were moved to a separate page, per the original setup.
Check out the updates at https://trumpet.cloud/mpc
The unofficial comparator site is committed to a simple, ad-free, no-cost viewing and contribution model. If you would like to donate your mouthpiece design(s) to the public comparator, consider getting it/them scanned by Vennture Mouthpieces and/or submitting your .mpc or .svg file(s) to the email listed in the site footer. The Vennture Mouthpiece scanning process does not damage the mouthpiece.
Cheers! ~ Chadwick |

Love your work!
It helped confirm a suspicion....
The Yamaha Bobby Shew Jazz and the Yamaha 14B4 are exactly the same mouthpiece.
