I want it all. I want to record our band playing a song and then play it back for everyone to listen to. I want the setup across the large room we practice in so that everyone can hear what it sounds like to an audience. So I want remote control for both the initiating of recording and then play it back immediately.
I have powered speakers. What recording device will do this for me.
Thanks. _________________ Richard

It sounds like you need a recording engineer. For what you want, it's more than having the right equipment, but know how to use it.
I would suggest to contact Sweetwater for recommendations, then use google to do pre-purchase research. |

Yes, an engineer would work if I had extra people. I just sent the question to Sweetwater. Heck, I've sent the question to everyone I could think of. _________________ Richard

What's your budget? How many mics do you need?
You could get ProTools for a computer, and have that right next to you when you record.
But there's a lot more involved than just connecting microphones and pressing the record button. |

A Zoom H4N would work fine to record. But it needs to be 15-20 feet away from me and the band for recording. And then it needs to connect to the wired speakers for playback. The Zoom does have a wired remote, but it is way too short. I'm not doing manipulation of the recorded sound. Just record and playback. _________________ Richard

This could be done by running a pair of microphones into a USB audio interface and then into a laptop/ tablet/ phone running something like GarageBand.
The output of the audio interface to the powered speaker directly or through a small mixer.
The iPad, interface and mixer could be sat in close proximity to you to allow easy recording playback.
Microphone and speaker placement dependent on how long your cables are.
Cost - dependent on how much of the gear that you have already... |

Excellent. I have the iPad, audio interface, mics and very long mic cords, ipad connects to speakers through bluetooth. Time to test it out.
Thank you. _________________ Richard
