|
|
I have a cornet with a trashed bell. The back bow is fine but the bell rim is heavily damaged.
I found a parts horn with a bell that should fit. The bell rim is fine but the back bow is in bad shape.
So here's the question: can a talented tech cut the trashed bell off somewhere before the first brace and replace it with the good bell from the parts horn?
Or is would it be better to have the back bow on the parts horn repaired and then have the two bells swapped. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I feel this is really something you should ask the tech you plan to ask to work on your instrument(s). |

I certainly will but it's 5 AM and I thought I'd take a break from Clarke and get some insights from TH members who may be up and about. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I would tend to favor swapping the entire bell, as they generally have only one or two braces that would be supporting it from the valve section. The ferrule "joining" the two pieces would be sizable, if its going to do the job.
