Happy Independence Day to those in the US. I'm celebrating by playing the Star Spangled Banner on each of my 30 vintage trumpets today. Since I haven't returned to playing that long, it's a challenge, and definitely finding out about mouthpiece choice for each horn (have about 40 different types of those), so some get played more than once.

I only played it once.... On my Eb Soprano cornet.

And then God Bless the USA, National Emblem March, Amazing Grace, Bugler's Holiday, Armed Forces Salute, God Bless America, Yankee Doodle (big Eb feature, Battle Hymn Of The Republic, Semper Fidelis, Stars and Stripes Forever (of course), and America The Beautiful (Carmen Dragon version).

In front of 400 or so firework, hot dog and burger crazed Texans, most with dogs, and a half dozen audience members or so actually riding horses through the park and staying to the end.

I love Texas, brass horns, and the 4th!! And it never got over 96 degrees.

Very cool, great selection, I'd have never lasted all that. Where in Texas? Thinking of moving there.

It was the Westwinds Brass Band of Lubbock Texas. We play a summer concert every Sunday night from the first Sunday in June through about mid July, plus an extra one or two like July the 4th for about 60 years. Lubbock even built us a nice big gazebo in a nice big park in mid town!

We usually rehearse 2 hours Sunday afternoon, then play the concert 3 hours later. It is a killer of Eb players!

Lubbock has often been called "the biggest small town in the US." There are lots of opportunities for amateur players here in a variety of genre's. I know several folks who moved here for that reason.

I played it once, at home, as loud as I could play it, so some of the neighbors heard it. Seemed appropriate while the fireworks were going off.

Our band did a 4th concert where we played it, plus a bunch of other stuff including Sousa's Stars and Stripes, and some military-themed medleys. Fun stuff.

Played it a few times at a local sports banquet when I was a kid.
I didn't get paid but got a nice free dinner. An added bonus was getting to meet several well known athletes. This organization would bring in a guest speaker. Two stand out. One was Jim Palmer, very cool guy. The other was former heavyweight contender, Two Ton Tony Galento. Man he was a real character.
I also played it at a youth football jamboree. There were about four thousand people in the stands.
