Apologies is this seems like a really stupid question... I’ve been told Hetman 4 light slide oil is a option to improve compression on vintage horns as it’s thicker?

Any advice?

It's good, but I prefer ultra pure black label classic.

Yes it works well. I use it with a 1915 Besson cornet!

I’ve used it as a topping…….
Oil valves as normal, I use Hetmans 2; then add a drop of #4.
I used this on a 1909 cornet I mainly use.
Have since started to use Roché-Thomas Mi-T-Slick, and am pretty happy with the results

I use #4 on super leaky horns. Note that with all #4 you will find it annoying how slow the valves come up, but unless you are playing fast passages you can get used to it. Or dilute with a drop of regular oil... #4 ends up being much much more viscous than #3 as #4 is designed as a slide oil and #3 is a valve oil.

I use #3 on really worn valves. The sealing effect wears off faster than it does with #4, but to me, that’s better than having sluggish valves.
