Can anyone tell me if standard (Bach) cornet mouthpieces properly fit the vintage King cornets of the 50's-60's?

The Bach and other modern tapers wobble a bit in my early 1960s King Silver Sonic. I bought a Curry mouthpiece with the old Conn shank taper from the earlier short shank models and it fits snugly.

Yours might be different.

Thanks - great information.
Appears to be a lot of King cornets out there, but not many King mouth pieces!

I play a 1946 King Silvertone Cornet. I find little or no difference in fit using my King, Bach, Kanstul, or Curry standard cornet mouthpieces. All work perfectly fine.

If the receiver is "gapless" - no visible leadpipe edge - a Bach should work. I have found that insertion depth is still important with cornets - so I have 3 different #10 Bach cornet backbores that insert to different depths. On the Kings I have tried, I find that the stock Bach shank sounds a bit structured. Turned down to give deeper insertion, the sound gets broader.

You might try a Schilke cornet mouthpiece - they extend further into the receiver.

Curry bbc fits my vintage 60s King perfectly as does the Bach that came with it. Its a 1965 if that helps.

I have a 1940s King Silvertone and I use a warburton KT backbore and Jim R New S5 top with no problem.
