Hello,

OK. I am a keyboard player and guitar player and THEN, yes THEN, I am a trumpet player.

I am working on a song with a violinist and there is a trumpet part that acts as pretty much like a chorus in this song. I wrote it and played it on midi in my DAW. I have been trying, trying, trying to play it on trumpet and I can't.

Does anyone here do studio work? IM me and we can discuss pricing and the trumpet track.

Kind Thanks,
Arty

Hi Arty, I kind of understand where you are coming from. Last year I was asked to provide some trumpet parts for a local studio. The parts were written by a guitar player and played/recorded with a keyboard. It was his first attempt at adding brass to his music. I was to add the trumpet parts over the keyboard/synth part. The problem was, never mind the guitar key, the part was very disjunct. There were large interval leaps, nothing seemed in scale motion and some of the rhythms I read (left handed figures) needed editing. I later asked him to listen to some STAX recordings, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Motown lines. I rewrote some of the lines to make them sound more linear and more like horn lines and not reoccurring calisthenic exercises. This helped tremendously.

So, have you used the keep it simple method ? Maybe you just need a little more practice on the lines, or get some coaching? It’s hard to say without seeing or hearing what you are trying to do. PM me. I also play guitar.

Dave
