Can someone tell me how the MK Drawing Mouthpipe Comparator is used and for what purpose? Thank you.

It helps compare lead pipes. If you're looking to install a new one, you can mount it using this device and use your mouthpiece. |

It is interesting that other than the name of the device the linked page doesn’t mention leapipes/mouthpipes.
The page could use a description of why and how the device is used. |

looks like a good tool to help someone not make a mistake (or several as seems to often be the pattern) _________________ Ron Berndt

Would anyone know what using a bronze leadpipe om a Severinsen would do? Thanks.
How about which tuning slide to make it more "legit"? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I am assuming you mean an Eterna as opposed to one of several Conn models - it would take a bit of the sizzle out of it, and probably tire you faster. Depending on your purpose, that might be a worthwhile trade-off.
Can you get a matching taper pipe in bronze? change the taper relationship between LP and bell, and the intonation, evenness across partials and resistance profile will go out the window.

None - too many other factors. _________________ Ron Berndt

I bought a couple of Pilczuk leadpipes from Rich Ita a while back. In one case I selected a particular design, but requested it in solid copper instead of yellow brass. Rich got back to me and commented that in his experience leadpipe material didn't change the tone, it changed the attack. So his nickel-silver leadpipes didn't brighten the tone, but they makes attacks sharper -- more percussive. And his copper leadpipes didn't darken the tone, but they made attacks less percussive.
The "commercial bronze" used in trumpets is a high-copper alloy, so this may apply. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |
